Dangers of social media

In my opinion this is a new danger that has developed as technology advances and it is not getting the attention it warrants. People are getting more attached to these apps and are uploading private information about themselves on the apps. They are seeking approval from outsiders and are getting upset if they don’t get a certain amount of likes or receive negative comments about their looks or style.

There are so called ‘Keyboard warriors’ who go around bullying people from behind the safety of their screens thinking there won’t be repercussions for hurtful comments. So far this is true, as who can police the world of the internet.

The age of which people are setting up social media accounts are getting lower and lower. We hear on the news about tragedies of how children are being bullied in their own rooms and driving them to suicide. We hear how people are grooming children for their own sick desires. How can we stop this? We can’t that is the answer. We can prevent these things from happening but as in reality with murders, stealing, fraud there is no solution that can stop it from happening. We need the social media companies to take more responsibility in preventing this. Setting up measures for reporting and banning of abuse. They need to be more proactive and take ownership when their fail safes have not worked in protecting people.

Addictions

Injection

‘Buzz Buzz’ the sound awakens me from the slumber of my sleep. I’m sure many of you have been awoken by this sound. The sound isn’t my alarm, it’s a notification from one of my social media apps. This sound is my addiction.

Now you might feel that addiction is a strong word, I mean it’s only checking your phone right?? This is what we tell ourselves to comfort ourselves from the truth, as we normally relate the word addiction to other activities. Activities such as smoking cigarettes or consuming drugs.

I feel as though this is why we need to take a step back and look at the definition of the word. Dictionary.com defines addiction as ‘the state of being enslaved to a habit’.

Now think to yourselves do you wake in the morning or during the day check your FaceBook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram without even thinking twice. Checking to see whether you’ve been tagged in something or someone has replied to your tweet. I know I do and this has sort of become something of a second nature to me. I do this without even realising that I’m doing it. I find that I have to check these apps. I have tried many a time to ditch this routine but it is hard. Yes, the old ‘it is hard’. The amount of times I’ve heard smokers or drinkers say this. I used to scoff at them thinking ‘How hard can it be’. But I suppose each person has that one habit that they find hard to overcome and this has become one of my challenges.

Beginnings

Beginnings

Well, where do I start. Firstly I’d like to apologise my grammar isn’t going to be the best.

Here goes…

All things in life have a starting point and I guess this blog is mine. I’ve never really had a place where I could voice my real opinions. I’ve tried various social media sites like Twitter, Whisper, Facebook, Instagram. But all these have people who I know. The only exception being Whisper. This site however has its pitfalls of guys just latching onto every post (Even if you are a dude posting). That’s enough about social media.

Anyway back to the title beginnings. Beginnings can happen at many times in a person’s life from being born to re-discovering our love of art/crafts/hobbies. Everytime we do begin, we begin with a clean slate. The clean slate allows our mind to be free and able to wonder unreservedly. This creates an atmosphere where we can develop new concepts outside the norm.

So don’t be scared to start again because sometimes it might be the making of you.
